Capsule — Continuous curvature

كبسولة

A barrel with fully domed ends. Light travels the full length uninterrupted, which makes the capsule the most luminous profile in transparent and golden ambers.

Standard sizes
8×11 · 10×14 · 12×16 mm
Aspect ratio
1.45 : 1
Production note
Preferred for transparent amber — maximum internal light path.
Available in
All nine amber varieties
Minimum order
100 pieces per specification

Custom dimensions are routine. If the profile you need is not in the library we tool for it, proof it against a physical prototype, and archive it under your account so it is never produced for anyone else.

Amber weight, by diameter

Integrated from this profile’s own geometry at 1.08 g/cm³, beads only. Amber is traded by weight, so this is the figure that turns a specification into a price.

Curvature that never stops

On a capsule the shoulder radius equals the bead radius, which means there is no flat wall at all — the surface curves continuously from one end to the other. That single geometric decision is what separates it from a barrel with generous shoulders, and it is visible instantly once you hold both.

Light behaves differently as a result. A barrel produces a band of highlight along its straight wall; a capsule produces a moving point that travels as the bead turns. On transparent grades that is the whole argument for the profile.

Nowhere for a poor polish to hide

A flat wall can be buffed to a shine relatively easily. A continuously curved surface cannot: any inconsistency in the progressive stages shows as a dull patch that moves with the highlight, and the eye finds it immediately. The capsule is consequently the profile that most exposes a supplier who has shortened the polish.

It is also the profile where heavy buffing to hide tool marks does the most damage, because rounding off a surface that is already all radius destroys the proportion the bead was cut to. If a capsule looks slightly bloated, that is what happened to it.

On the strand

A capsule strand slides rather than steps. There is no flat end to rest against a neighbour, so the beads run continuously through the hand — some buyers prefer that considerably and others find it lacks the discrete count a barrel gives. It is worth deciding with a sample rather than a drawing.

It suits mid diameters best. At 6 mm the continuous curvature reads as a plain oval; at 14 mm the profile is long enough that the piece becomes noticeably heavy for its visual size.

Who asks for it

The capsule sells strongest where the buyer is choosing on feel rather than on tradition — luxury retail, gifting, and markets with less entrenched profile preference. It is rarely the first request in Türkiye or the Gulf, where olive and barrel are the defaults, and it is frequently the first request from European and design-led buyers.

It also suits programmes where the piece will be handled constantly by the same person, because the continuous surface has no arris to soften and no flat to develop a wear pattern. A capsule at ten years reads closer to its original condition than any faceted profile at the same age, which is worth saying to a buyer building a collector proposition.

8 to 12 mm. Below that the curvature reads as a plain oval; above it the piece becomes heavy for its visual size.
